Question: What about science fascinates you (or more simply, what do you like about science)?
Answer: I like science because, just when you think you know everything about the world, you realize there’s more out there than you could possibly imagine. Every little crumb to every huge galaxy full of planets and stars has its own story to tell and its own mystery to figure out.
Question: What hobbies or extra-curricular activities do you enjoy and why?
Answer: I love music; I play the piano and the cello. It speaks in its own language. Music can shout or whisper, flutter or storm across the page. Art is another hobby I enjoy. I paint, draw, and create sculptures. The details are my favorite parts. I also like writing because I am in control. I catch the words floating in my mind, and arrange them to make a story or write a report.
Question: What career do you want to pursue and why?
Answer: I want to become a middle school teacher because I think that’s when kids learn the most interesting things. We discover new math formulas, develop our writing skills, learn about intriguing cultures from centuries ago, and, of course, advance in science! I just love the look on the other students’ faces when I explain things to them. They have a face that says: “Oh, I get it. Wow, I know so much now!” I want to be able to leave an impression on kids’ lives, and help them move toward the future. Everyone had a teacher: Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Benjamin Franklin, and so many others. Who knows, maybe I could teach the next genius!
Question: What is your favorite school subject?
Answer: My favorite school subject would have to be either science or social studies. I like science because it’s so fun! There’s just so much science all around you, you just have to realize it. Social studies are also fun because, if you think about it in a different way, it’s not just boring history and geography. It’s everyone’s story, and how they lived/live the past and present.
